Tottenham are interested in signing Nice's Vincent Marcel but reports of a deal are premature, a source close to the transfer has told ESPN FC.

Marcel, 20, can play as a winger or a central midfielder and made nine appearances for the French club last season, including six in Ligue 1.

Spurs spotted the France under-20 international while scouting Nice right-back Ricardo Pereira, who spent last season on loan at the French club from Porto.

Reports in the French and UK media claim Marcel has agreed a five-year contract in principle with Spurs but, according to the source, the youngster was being considered as a signing for the future, rather than a player who could immediately challenge for a first-team place.

Meanwhile, Clinton Njie will join Marseille on a permanent deal after Tottenham decided against activating a recall clause in his loan contract.

The Cameroon winger, who spent last season at the Stade Velodrome, was filmed arriving back at the French club for the start of preseason on Monday and the move is expected to be announced by both clubs once the paperwork is complete.
