Talk of Sergio Aguero move 'ridiculous' - Man City chairman Al Mubarak

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has dismissed suggestions that striker Sergio Aguero will leave as "ridiculous" and said he hopes midfielder Yaya Toure will stay for another year.

Speculation about Aguero's future grew after he lost his place following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus in January.

The Argentina international said his future could be decided at the end of the season, but coach Pep Guardiola has said he wants to keep him.

And Al Mubarak said there was no intention of selling a player who is just eight goals short of becoming City's record scorer.

"I've read a lot of the speculation on this and it's ridiculous," he told the club's official website.

"Sergio Aguero is one of the best players in the world. We are a team that aspires to win every competition we compete in.

"Having Sergio Aguero as part of the squad is an absolute must. It has never been in doubt."

Toure's future is still to be confirmed, with his contract set to expire at the end of June, although sources have told ESPN FC that club and player are close to agreeing a one-year extension.

"Yaya has shown us this year again and again how he can contribute to this team," Al Mubarak added. "He is one of the players that over the last six years has been instrumental to the success of this club.

"Pep, as you have seen obviously this year, has a lot of trust and confidence in him. So Yaya, I hope, will be with us and continue his journey with us."

Al Mubarak said he was encouraged by the progress made in Guardiola's first year in charge despite City failing to win silverware or maintain a significant challenge for the Premier League title.

"In normal circumstances, ending the season without a trophy would be a very disappointing season -- but it's not, it really isn't," he said.

"I am very excited about how we are developing as a team, how Pep has taken the squad and really started a process of going through that natural cycle of development.

"We've gone through several cycles over the last nine years and we're in the middle of one now but you can see where we're going. I have high confidence that we are going in the right direction."

He said there had been "many glimpses of us playing a type of football that is very exciting and very entertaining that I think the fans will grow to love" and added: "The results will come, I have no doubts."
