Man United back in for Benfica's Victor Lindelof, in pole position - sources

Manchester United remain in pole position to sign Benfica defender Victor Lindelof despite interest from other clubs, sources close to the Premier League side have told ESPN FC.

United scouts, along with representatives from Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion, were in attendance for Benfica's Taca de Portugal clash with Estoril on Wednesday.

United took in the game to cast an eye over Lindelof, 22, and the Sweden international played the full 90 minutes of the 3-3 draw.

United have held a long-term interest in Lindelof and considered signing him during the January transfer window before he penned a new deal with Benfica.

Despite extending his contract at the Estadio da Luz, United remain hopeful of brining Lindelof to Old Trafford this summer, with Jose Mourinho making him one of his main transfer targets.

Lindelof is regarded as one the best young defenders in Europe and a number of clubs have been keeping tabs on him.
