Serge Gnabry told to stay at Bremen by father amid Arsenal, Bayern talk

Serge Gnabry's father believes he should stay at Werder Bremen for another three years, amid talk of a move to Bayern Munich or a return to Arsenal for the winger.

Gnabry, 21, has been one of the star players in the Bundesliga this term after leaving Arsenal for Bremen last summer.

Although tied to a five-year deal, the Germany international has been linked with a switch away from the Weserstadion, suggesting recently that a return to Arsenal could be possible, although Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has since ruled out buying him back.

Bayern are rumoured to have been behind Gnabry's move to Bremen, with reports claiming that he could then move on to the German champions in the summer.

However, speaking to reporters, Jean-Hermann Gnabry urged his son to continue his development at the Weserstadion for now.

"Yes, yes. He will stay here," he said when asked whether his son would still be a Bremen player next season. "He needs to get a foothold here first."

Reports have suggested that Gnabry has a €10 million release clause in his contract, something his father said he was not aware of and is not worried about.

"I don't know [about] the release clause. But what I know is that he needs to establish himself here first," he said, then referencing former Bremen players who made a name for themselves at the club before moving on to bigger sides. "Diego was here for three years, Mesut Ozil played here for three years. Why should Serge not stay here for three years?"

And when asked if Gnabry would be playing next season for Bayern -- Bremen's opponents on Saturday -- he replied: "No, no."
