FC Dallas signs striker Cristian Colman as young designated player

FC Dallas signed Paraguayan forward Cristian Colman to a young designated player contract on Thursday.

The 22-year-old joins the MLS club from Nacional, where he has scored 18 goals in 65 games since 2015.

Terms of the transfer were not disclosed. Goal.com reported earlier this month that Dallas paid the Paraguay club a $2 million fee to acquire Colman amid offers from such high-profile clubs as Mexico's Leon, Argentina's Lanus and Brazil's Sao Paulo and Gremio.

"Cristian Colman is a guy who will come here and score goals," Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo said in a statement. "Hopefully, he can help us to win an MLS Cup and a CONCACAF championship. We're really excited."

Colman will join Maximiliano Urruti up front this season for the club which won the MLS Supporters' Shield and U.S. Open Cup in 2016.
