Burnley lining up move to sign Andy Robertson from Hull City - sources

Burnley are lining up a move for Hull City defender Andy Robertson, sources close to the Clarets have told ESPN FC.

Robertson has impressed at Hull since joining the club from Dundee in 2014 and a number of top clubs have been credited with an interest in his services.

The 22-year-old made 24 appearances in his first season in the Premier League, but he could not prevent Hull from suffering relegation.

Robertson played a key role in helping Hull win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking last season and he has again been one of their shining lights this season despite their struggles at the wrong end of the table.

Hull took up a contract option on Robertson to extend his stay at the KCOM Stadium just before Christmas as they look to ward off interest in their prize asset.

However, Burnley are ready to test Hull's resolve to hang onto the Scotland international by making a move for Robertson before the close of the transfer window, sources said.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is keen to bolster his left-back options and sees Robertson as a star in the making who would prove a valuable addition to his squad at Turf Moor.

Hull are unlikely to welcome any bids for Robertson as they look to keep hold of their best players to aid their bid to secure Premier League survival this season.
