LA Galaxy add Joao Pedro from Guimaraes to new-look midfield

The LA Galaxy continued to rework their midfield by signing Joao Pedro from Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes on Thursday.

Pedro, 23, comes to the Galaxy as a special discovery player, and the MLS club used targeted allocation money to secure his contract.

He signs just one day after the Galaxy finalized the contract of U.S. international Jermaine Jones.

"Joao is an extremely talented midfielder who has experience playing at a high-level in Portugal," general Manager Peter Vagenas said.

"He is only 23 years old and has the best years of his career front of him. We identified him as a top target this offseason and we think he can immediately help strengthen our midfield."

Pedro has played his entire career with Guimaraes, joining their first team in 2014.

He has scored one goal this season while starting every game for Guimaraes, which is currently fifth in the Portuguese top flight.
