Liverpool shouldn't waste effort pursuing Christian Pulisic - Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have told Liverpool they should not waste their time pursuing a deal for U.S. international Christian Pulisic.

Sources told ESPN FC in the summer that Liverpool may pursue a deal for Pulisic in the future despite having seen a bid of €13 million (£11.1m at the time) rejected, and the Daily Mail reported this week that they were ready to step up their efforts to sign player.

The newspaper said Dortmund would require a bid in the region of £25m (€29.5m at current rates) before they would consider selling the 18-year-old, but BVB sporting director Michael Zorc told Bild: "It's not worth the effort for Liverpool."

Pulisic, who is under contract until 2019, was reported to be concerned about his prospects for first-team football under Thomas Tuchel but is enjoying a breakthrough campaign.

The winger, who joined Dortmund in 2015 when Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was in charge at the Westfalenstadion, has scored twice and provided six assists in 14 competitive appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Bild has reported that Manchester City could make an offer for BVB midfielder Julian Weigl, who already received praise from City boss Pep Guardiola when he was in charge at Bayern Munich.

The Germany international is under contract at Dortmund until 2019 but, although Dortmund were reported to have opened contract talks in October, Weigl has yet to agree to a new deal that Bild said could see his annual salary rise from €1.5m to around €4m.

BVB last tied one of their star players to a new contract in the summer of 2015, when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed an extension through to 2020, but they were unable to convince Mats Hummels, Henrikh Mkhitaryan or Ilkay Gundogan to stay beyond the summer.
