Xabi Alonso 'hasn't made a decision' about Bayern Munich future

Xabi Alonso says he will not rush to make a decision on his playing future with his contract at Bayern Munich ending in the summer of 2017.

Alonso, 35, is in his third campaign with the Bundesliga champions, whom he joined from Real Madrid.

A World Cup winner with Spain in 2010, the midfielder has made 13 starts in all competitions this season under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

When asked about his plans, Alonso told Onda Cero radio: "I don't have anything clear, I have a contract until June and then I shall see.

"I haven't made a decision.

"For the time being, I'm just focusing on enjoying the moment and once I know what is best, then I will make a decision."

The former Liverpool star has had a successful spell at Bayern, winning two Bundesliga titles as well as the German Cup last season under former coach Pep Guardiola. Bayern are second in the domestic standings this season, three points adrift of surprise leaders RB Leipzig.

"It's strange," Alonso said. "In past seasons, we have become accustomed to being in the top position with more points.

"It's going to be a challenge.

"Leipzig are strong and are playing once a week while we have a more challenging calendar."

Alonso says Bayern, who halted a three-match winless run with Saturday's 2-1 home win over Bayer Leverkusen, are yet to show their best under Ancelotti.

The Italian, who coached Alonso at Real Madrid in the 2013-14 campaign, signed a three-year contract to replace Guardiola this summer.

"It's an important change," Alonso said. "Pep was here for three years and did a great job.

"Ancelotti has been here three months and we are still in the process of adapting.

"We haven't performed at the level we can yet. We haven't taken good results of late."

The Champions League has also had some tough games for Bayern.

"Last week's defeat [3-2 at Rostov] in Russia meant that we will finish second in our Champions League group," Alonso said.

"We are going to try to finish our group phase in the best possible way. We hope we can have a better rhythm in the knockout stages."

Bayern play away to Mainz before hosting Atletico Madrid in their last group game on Dec. 6. Atletico have won all of their Champions League games and are six points clear of second-place Bayern.
