Andrea Belotti worth the same as Gonzalo Higuain - Torino chief Cairo

Torino president Urbano Cairo believes Andrea Belotti is worth as much as Gonzalo Higuain as he insists on a sizeable release clause being inserted in the forward's next contract.

Belotti, 22, has already committed his long-term future to the Granata with his current deal expiring in 2020, but Cairo is keen on renegotiating the terms and trying to scare off any interested clubs by inserting a release clause similar to the one Higuain had with Napoli.

Juventus activated that clause of just over €90 million to sign the striker in the summer and Cairo believes Italy international Belotti is worth at least as much.

"We're talking with Belotti's advisors and we want to extend his contract, which runs until 2020 as it is," Cairo told Radio 24. "We want to show our recognition of him, while now could be a good time to insert a release clause for abroad.

"Since I am used to saying things that I can only stick to, I cannot be 100 percent certain, but I can say that Belotti is staying with us. If we do reach a new agreement with him with a clause in it, even a really high one, I don't know if there would be somebody abroad willing to give me €100m for Belotti, but I think his clause would be worth that of Higuain."

Speaking of a transfer remains hypothetical for the moment, however, with Cairo insisting he has plans for Belotti in Turin.

"I've never thought of how much Belotti might be worth because I've never considered selling him," Cairo added. "Nobody has ever asked me for him. I know there is interest, but I'm not thinking about selling him. He needs to grow here with us."

Belotti has scored 10 goals in 11 Serie A appearances this season, while he has also boosted his Italy tally to three in five caps with his strikes against Liechtenstein earlier this month.
