Lucas Vazquez agrees new long-term Real Madrid contract

Real Madrid have announced that winger Lucas Vazquez has agreed a new contract with the club which runs until June 2021.

Galicia-born Vazquez, 25, came through the youth system at the Bernabeu, but really came to prominence after joining Espanyol in 2014, earning a return to the Madrid first team squad the following summer.

The hard-working winger became a key member of the squad under Zinedine Zidane last season, featuring in the Champions League final win over Atletico Madrid, and then for Spain at Euro 2016.

By agreeing a new deal Vazquez has followed teammates Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in committing his long term future to the club.

"Real Madrid C. F. and Lucas Vazquez have agreed the extension of the player's contract, which sees him linked to the club until June 30, 2021," an official club statement said. "On Thursday at 1:30pm, Lucas Vazquez will appear before the media in the press room at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium."

Other senior Madrid stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, are also close to agreeing new contracts, according to reports in the local press.

Centre-half Pepe is the only Blancos player out of contract at the end of the current campaign, with no sign yet of the 33-year-old Portugal international agreeing a new deal.
