Jose Mourinho to prioritise right-backs in January transfer window - sources

Jose Mourinho is seeking to add more pace to the Manchester United team and will prioritise right-backs in the January window, reviving the club's interest in Fabinho of Monaco and Everton's Seamus Coleman, sources have told ESPN FC.

There is an emboldened mood in the United squad after the 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Monday, with that greatly steadying the side and offering reassurance after a rocky September.

While there was a general satisfaction with how solid the team were again, Mourinho realised the team need more of an outlet in games like that and players to break and release the pressure.

Consequently, sources say he will go back to United's interest in Fabinho and Coleman. Mourinho had wanted to improve the full-back areas in the summer, but felt other positions needed to be fixed first.

Since United spent around £150 million -- including breaking the world transfer record for Paul Pogba -- Mourinho decided to wait on the right-back position and improvise in the meantime.

While Antonio Valencia has performed well there, he is not seen as the perfect solution, and the Portuguese does not see Matteo Darmian as part of his plans.

United's primary right-back target is 22-year-old Bazilian Fabinho, but it could be less complicated -- and costly -- to prise Coleman from Everton.
