Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez would be welcomed back to Real Madrid, two members of the club's board have told Mexican television.
Hernandez spent the 2013-14 season on loan at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu from Manchester United -- scoring nine goals in 33 appearances, with by far the most important being his late winner in the Champions League quarterfinals at home to Atletico Madrid.
On a visit to Mexico, Bernabeu board member Santiago Aguado was asked on Fox Sports about a possible return for the attacker to Madrid.
"Yes, I would like that," Aguado replied. "We believe he is a great player."
Many of Hernandez's appearances for Madrid were from the bench, given the club's "BBC" strikeforce of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo starts most games when fit.
Another board member, Manuel Cerezo, said on the same show that it was difficult to settle at Madrid in just one season.
"Chicharito did not fully succeed at Real Madrid," Cerezo said. "But players need time to adapt, at Madrid you cannot do it overnight. He had a chance to go to Bayer and is doing very well there."
After his year in La Liga, Hernandez joined Bayer Leverkusen from Manchester United for €12 million in summer 2014.
The 28-year-old has since scored 33 goals in 49 appearances for the Bundesliga club.
