Yannick Carrasco 'happy' at Atletico Madrid amid Chelsea interest

Atletico Madrid forward Yannick Carrasco has confirmed his desire to continue with the Rojiblancos beyond his current deal, which expires in June 2020.

Carrasco, 23, is the subject of interest from Chelsea, according to reports in England, with the Blues considering paying his £35 million buy-out clause in January.

However, Carrasco, who moved to Atletico in the summer of 2015 from Monaco and signed a five-year contract, is reported by AS as saying: "I will be here until 2020 but I hope I will continue beyond that.

"I'm very happy at Atleti. I have been very well received at the club. When I play well and score goals, the fans chant my name and I hope to continue like that."

The Belgium international scored four goals in 29 league appearances to help Atletico finish third in La Liga last season.

He also made nine appearances in the Champions League and became the first Belgian player to score in the European final when he equalised against Real Madrid to take the game to extra time. The Rojiblancos would go on to lose in a penalty shootout.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has reassured his club's fans that Carrasco's long-term future is in Madrid.

Cerezo told AS newspaper: "Carrasco is an Atletico player and he will be an Atletico player for many years to come."

He has started in five league games this season and is eager to cement his place in Diego Simeone's line-up.

"I work with the aim of being a starter but it's the coach that has to make the decision," Carrasco said. "We are working hard and we are taking it one game at a time."

Carrasco started in Belgium's 6-0 rout of Gibraltar in Monday's World Cup qualifier.
