Ex-Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh joins Championship Cardiff City

Former Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh has joined Championship strugglers Cardiff City on a short-term deal.

Chamakh, a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace -- where he had worked with new Cardiff boss Neil Warnock -- said he wanted to help his new team, second bottom of the table, to improve.

The 32-year-old Morocco international told the club's official website: "I'm so happy to be here and work with the manager again.

"I worked for him at Crystal Palace before, and I'm happy and proud to work with him here at Cardiff City FC.

"Cardiff are a side that should be on top and I think we can improve going forward. I'm looking forward to meeting my new teammates and getting started."

Warnock said his new signing was "a versatile player with pedigree" and added that he "impressed me during my time at Crystal Palace."
