Robert Lewandowski 'calm' over Bayern Munich contract talks

Robert Lewandowski is in no rush to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich despite reports in the German media saying his advisers are in advanced talks to extend his current deal.

Lewandowski, 28, signed a five-year deal when joining Bayern on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, but has been linked with Real Madrid, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and a host of Premier League clubs.

According to German broadcaster Sport1, Lewandowski's agents met with Bayern at their training ground in Munich on Wednesday, ahead of the 3-0 win against Hertha Berlin which moved the German champions back to the top of the Bundesliga table.

Lewandowski did not deny that a meeting had taken place between the club and his advisers, Cezary Kucharski and Maik Barthel, but said: "I have no idea what happened there and if they only had coffee or went into more detail.

"I have always said we'll find a solution. We need to remain calm, it isn't that easy once the season is underway. We play every three days, and that's most important for me."

However, fellow German outlet SportBild also maintain talks are advanced between the two parties, reporting details of three meetings going back as far as February of this year.

According to SportBild, Lewandowski has a contract offer to extend his current deal to 2021 which would make him the club's best paid player, outstripping Thomas Muller's €15 million reported annual salary.

Quizzed about his in-form striker's future in an interview with L'Equipe, Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti stressed that "good players stay at good teams," while CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Der Spiegel that he believed the club's increased Champions League revenue would help keep hold of Lewandowski and ward off English clubs.

About PSG's reported interest in Lewandowski over the summer, Ancelotti added: "Not possible. Never! In fact, I think he will be extending [his contract] at Bayern."

Regarding the possible arrival of Atletico Madrid forward Antoinne Griezmann, the Italian coach said: "Griezmann could play in any of Europe's top sides. We already have a very good attacker here though and I would not exchange Robert Lewandowski for anyone."

Lewandowski, top scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 30 goals, has already bagged nine this term in seven games. Thursday also marks the one-year anniversary of his famous five-goal barrage in nine minutes against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
