Mauro Icardi sets sights on winning trophies with Inter Milan

Mauro Icardi has again pledged his future to Inter Milan and set his sights on lifting a trophy as their captain.

Icardi, 23, was the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer, with his wife and agent Wanda Nara claiming he was unhappy that Inter were not willing to offer him a new and improved contract.

But with the transfer window closed, Icardi told a news conference: "I hope to stay here as long as possible.

"I'm happy to be at Inter and I want to win things with this shirt on, and maybe lift trophies as captain."

One of the trophies in his sights is the Europa League, in which Inter begin their campaign at home to Hapoel Beer-Sheva on Thursday.

"I'm keen on doing well in this competition," Icardi said. "We all are. We need to do well if we want to get used to playing in the Champions League, which is our objective."

Icardi has scored three times in Inter's first three games of the season, with his goals helping them collect four points.

No other Inter player has scored so far this season, but he said: "Each goal rewards my teammates' work.

"People mainly talk about the goals in football, so that's why people talk a lot about me, but a team is created with everybody's input."
