West Ham United are poised to sign former Liverpool and Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa on a free transfer, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.
Arbeloa, 33, is currently undergoing a medical at West Ham after the club moved for the ex-Spain international to help sort out their problematic right-back position.
The Hammers have been scouring the transfer market in search of a right-back and had considered a move for Aston Villa's Micah Richards before opting to go for Arbeloa.
Arbeloa ended his spell at Madrid at the end of last season after seven years with the Spanish giants.
The defender is expected to sign a one-year deal at West Ham, with the option of extending it if all goes well for him in East London.
