Alan Pulido joins Chivas Guadalajara from Olympiakos

Striker Alan Pulido's controversial stint in Europe is over, with Liga MX club Chivas announcing he will join them from Olympiakos.

"The Mexican forward will strengthen Guadalajara's squad for the Apertura 2016," read the statement from Chivas.

No details were immediately revealed about the nature of the deal and whether it is a loan or permanent move, but the 25-year-old's return to Mexico seems to have ended his dispute with former club Tigres.

Pulido comes to Chivas having played just 14 league games in the past 28 months since his last Liga MX match for Tigres in April 2014.

His lack of activity kept him out of the Mexican national team, although he did score five times in eight Superleague appearances for Olympiakos during 2016.

A member of Mexico's World Cup 2014 squad, Pulido forced a move to Europe from Tigres by arguing his contract had expired and was free to sign for a club in Europe.

Tigres, on the other hand, were adamant Pulido had put pen to paper on a contract extension until the summer of 2016.

The Mexican federation ruled in favor of the Liga MX club in December 2014 and Pulido then took his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which also ruled against him, despite the striker already having announced he had signed for Greek side Levadiakos.

After a period of inactivity, Pulido was granted a provisional ITC by FIFA in February 2015 that allowed him to play for Levadiakos and then move onto current Greek champions Olympiakos in the summer of 2015.

Pulido was the subject of international headlines back last May, when he was kidnapped whilst on vacation in his home state of Tamaulipas, with reports the player had to fight to escape.

Pulido joins a Chivas side currently basking in their 3-0 victory on Saturday over bitter rival Club America. Chivas -- who only field Mexican players -- sit in seventh place in the Apertura table.
