Patrick Bamford joins Burnley from Chelsea on season-long loan deal

Burnley have completed the signing of Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford on a season-long loan deal.

Bamford, 22, arrives at Turf Moor hoping for greater first-team experience than he achieved in spells at Crystal Palace and Norwich City last season, where he made just four starts and a grand total of 16 appearances, while failing to score a single goal.

"Burnley Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford on a season-long loan," the Clarets said in a statement.

Bamford becomes Burnley's fifth senior signing of the summer after the arrivals of Steven Defour, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Nick Pope and Jon Flanagan.

He will compete with Andre Gray, Sam Vokes, Ashley Barnes and Lukas Jutkiewicz for playing time up front under Sean Dyche.

Bamford joined Chelsea as a highly rated teenager from Nottingham Forest in January 2012 but is yet to make a senior competitive appearance for the Blues, instead spending time on loan at MK Dons, Derby County, Middlesbrough, Palace and Norwich.

"I had heard in the past three seasons that Sean was interested, but for one reason or another it hadn't materialised," Bamford told Burnley's official website. "We spoke again in this window and after a chat everything was positive. It was just about getting it done in the end.

"One of the things the gaffer said to me is that he has done well with strikers in the past. He said he'd bring the best out of me and was straightforward with me.

"He told me how it was and it's refreshing to have that. Sometimes in managers you can get a blurred pathway, so it was nice to hear the truth, then you know where you stand and it's easier to move on from there.

"I know I have to work hard and I'm fully prepared to do that to try and get in that team.

"It's up to me to take that chance when it comes. The Premier League is a long, hard season and there will be chances. It's up to me then."
