Cheick Tiote's deal with Galatasaray falls through - report

Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote's proposed move to Galatasaray has fallen through because of contractual difficulties, sources have told Press Association Sport.

The 30-year-old Ivory Coast international travelled to Istanbul with a view to completing a permanent transfer, with the Magpies now prepared to sell the man they bought from FC Twente for £3.5 million in August 2010.

However, sources close to the player have indicated that he and the Turkish club were unable to agree terms despite lengthy talks, and the deal has collapsed.

Reports in Turkey have suggested it foundered when Tiote failed a medical, but sources on Tyneside have insisted there is no fitness problem.

The combative midfielder has been available for some time with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua having previously been determined suitors, while there was also interest from the Middle East.

Manager Rafael Benitez is prepared to allow Tiote to leave after a radical summer overhaul which has so far seen 12 new signings arrive at St James' Park.

Meanwhile, sources say the Magpies have agreed a loan deal for Chelsea midfielder Christian Atsu, although the player is yet to undergo a medical or discuss personal terms.
