Liverpool strike deal with Lazio for midfielder Luis Alberto - source

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Lazio for midfielder Luis Alberto, a source close to the Premier League club has told ESPN FC.

Luis Alberto has been given permission to travel to Rome to discuss personal terms after the two clubs agreed a fee of €5 million on Monday afternoon.

The deal includes a 30 percent sell-on clause and the fee could potentially rise depending on whether the Serie A outfit qualify for European football in the future.

Luis Alberto is yet to agree personal terms with Lazio but the hierarchy at the Italian side were impressed with the 23-year-old's loan spell at Deportivo La Coruna last season, where he scored six goals and provided eight assists in 31 appearances, the source added.

The Spaniard joined Liverpool in the summer of 2013 from Sevilla but he failed to make impact in his time at the club, making only 12 appearances.

He returned to Merseyside this summer to take part in Liverpool's preseason but did not appear in any of the side's nine friendlies.

ESPN FC reported in July that Liverpool were seeking a fee of £7 m for Luis Alberto, with Sevilla, Deportivo and French side Nice all interested.
