Blaise Matuidi set to sign new deal to stay with PSG - club president

Paris Saint-Germain are set to resist transfer market interest in Blaise Matuidi by signing the France midfielder to a new contract.

The 29-year-old had been linked with Juventus in recent days, with the Italian champions the latest in a line of clubs reported to have been attracted to the tough-tackling international.

However, PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi has ruled out a sale and said Matuidi not only wants to stay, but will commit to a new deal.

Al-Khelaifi told French newspaper Le Parisien: "I confirm to you that he will not leave and that we will extend his contract.

"I've always wanted him to stay and he too has always wanted to stay."

Matuidi joined the Parisians from St Etienne in 2011 and has won French league titles in each of the last four years.

"He's an exemplary player who has always given everything for PSG," Al-Khelaifi said. "He's a great representative of the club."
