Schalke confirm Serge Gnabry interest, play down Son Heung-Min link

Schalke have confirmed their interest in Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry, but have played down reports they could sign Tottenham winger Son Heung-Min.

The Royal Blues bolstered their squad on Thursday with the signings of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Benjamin Stambouli and Nabil Bentaleb, his former teammate at Tottenham.

But of reported interest in Son, Schalke's new sporting executive Christian Heidel was dismissive.

"I wondered where that rumour came from," Heidel told reporters in Gelsenkirchen on Thursday. "We won't buy half of Tottenham's team. Son has nothing to do with Schalke."

When asked about Gnabry, however, the answer was markedly different. The Arsenal winger impressed for Germany during the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, and has been linked with a number of Bundesliga sides.

"All Bundesliga clubs except Bayern are looking at him," Heidel said, hinting at interest in the 21-year-old.

Schalke start their 2016-17 campaign with a match at Eintracht Frankfurt, and following the upcoming international break host German champions Bayern Munich.
