Tottenham considering move for Man City's Mangala - source

Tottenham are considering a move for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala before Wednesday's transfer deadline, a source close to the club has told ESPN FC.

If Spurs can agree a difficult deal for the France international centre-back, they will listen to offers for Kevin Wimmer, who signed a new five-year contract last month.

The club are in talks with Crystal Palace about a £15 million move for Wilfried Zaha and are still working on a deal for Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, the Marseille winger.

Clinton Njie could move to the French club in a separate deal, while Ryan Mason and Nacer Chadli are free to follow DeAndre Yedlin and Nabil Bentaleb out of White Hart Lane in the next week.

Mangala has not featured in any of City's matchday squads under new manager Pep Guardiola, who favours summer signing John Stones, Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi and Aleksandar Kolarov at centre-back.

The France international has been a huge disappointment since joining City from Porto for £32 million in the summer of 2014 but Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is a fan of the 25-year-old.

Mangala, who has three years remaining on his contract, has been linked with a loan move to Napoli and it's unclear if Tottenham would seek a loan deal for a permanent transfer for the defender -- or if City will sanction any kind of deal with a club that beat them home and away last season, and finished four points ahead in the table.

In contrast to Mangala, Wimmer has impressed since moving to the Premier League from FC Koln last summer, making 11 appearances in the Premier League and 21 in total.

The Austria international missed the majority of preseason with a hamstring strain and -- in common with Chadli and Njie -- he was not included in the matchday squad for Saturday's win over Crystal Palace, despite Pochettino insisting Hugo Lloris and Mousa Dembele were the only absentees.
