Atletico Madrid midfielder Oliver Torres makes Porto loan return

Atletico Madrid have loaned Spanish midfielder Oliver Torres to FC Porto for a season-and-a-half, both clubs confirmed on Thursday.

The 21-year-old returns to the Dragoes where he started in 28 games while on loan from Atletico in the 2014-15 campaign.

"Our club has reached an agreement with Porto for the loan of Oliver Torres to the Portuguese team," Atletico said in a statement. "The club wishes the player the best of luck in his new professional chapter."

A youth product of Atletico, Oliver returned to the Vicente Calderon last summer after his successful loan spell at Porto. However, he struggled to break into the first team and was limited to just 14 starts in all competitions.

Neither Atletico nor Porto revealed any financial details regarding Oliver's loan but media reports say there is a mandatory €20m buy clause after the season-long loan spell ends.

The Rojiblancos also announced on Thursday that their Spanish right-back Javier Manquillo joined Sunderland on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old was loaned to Liverpool in the 2014-15 campaign before spending last season at Marseille, where he made 43 official appearances.

Atletico said in a statement: "Manquillo will return to play in the Premier League after our club reached an agreement with Sunderland to loan the player until the end of the season."
