U.S. international DeAndre Yedlin joins Newcastle from Tottenham Hotspur

Newcastle United have completed the signing of United States international DeAndre Yedlin from Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee.

Yedlin, who spent last season on loan at Newcastle's arch-rivals Sunderland, has signed a five-year contract with the Championship club.

The transfer fee for the right-back, who has made 39 appearances for United States, is reported to be £5 million ($6.6m), according to multiple sources.

The 23-year-old told Newcastle's official website: "Newcastle is such a big and historic club, and I'm excited to have the honour of playing for them. Hopefully I can do great things here.

"I'm excited to learn under Rafa Benitez as well. He has an amazing resume and I know he will help improve me a lot. I can't wait to get started."

Yedlin arrives at Newcastle after they allowed Netherlands international Daryl Janmaat to join Watford.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez said: "We have known for a little while of Watford's interest in Daryl Janmaat, so it was important for us to bring in a replacement immediately.

"In DeAndre we have a player who knows English football well. He has good experience, an attacking mentality, ability and great pace.

"I think he can do really well for us and will give us good competition on the right."

Yedlin, who signed with Spurs two years ago after impressing at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, was behind Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier in the pecking order at White Hart Lane and made his lone league appearance for the club in April last year.

Sources told ESPN FC that Sunderland were actively trying to sign Yedlin to a permanent deal after his loan spell but were unwilling to meet Tottenham's asking price.
