Hakan Calhanoglu attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur - agent

Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to express an interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, according to the player's agent.

Calhanoglu, 22, has been linked with a host of European clubs over the past 12 months and earlier this week his representative, Bektas Demirtas, claimed Atletico Madrid are interested but added "there is nothing concrete" from the Spanish side.

Spurs, who are expected to sell DeAndre Yedlin and Nabil Bentaleb in the coming days, are also said to be interested in Turkey international Calhanoglu, although Demirtas says his client is happy at Leverkusen.

"It is true that Tottenham have registered their interest with me. We are looking at it," Demirtas told Express.

"Hakan wants to stay at Leverkusen. He only recently had a good chat with [coach] Roger Schmidt. He knows that he will need to improve and he's very ambitious. He wants to achieve the set goals with Schmidt."

Express claims Leverkusen could consider an offer exceeding €30 million, and that Demirtas has already held talks with Tottenham, who join Leverkusen and Atletico in Thursday's Champions League group-stage draw.

Calhanoglu is under contract with Leverkusen until 2019, and last month he told Express that he has no plans to leave the club this summer.

"I want to stay at Bayer," the former Hamburg player said, before acknowledging that he faces a battle for a first-team spot this term after only three goals in 31 league matches last season.

Last week, he remained on the bench for 74 minutes as Leverkusen just edged past fifth-tier side SC Hauenstein in the DFB Pokal.
