Mainz play down talk of move for Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry

Mainz have rejected speculation linking them with a move for Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry, with sporting director Rouven Schroder telling reporters: "There is nothing to it."

Gnabry, 21, impressed for Germany at the Olympics, scoring six goals as they won silver following a penalty shootout defeat to Brazil in Saturday's final.

Although Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he wants to keep Gnabry and extend his contract, the player has been linked with Leipzig, Hertha Berlin and Mainz, who are facing an injury crisis in their attack.

Speaking to reporters, Schroder dismissed the links but praised the player, saying: "He played great games at the Olympics. He's hard-running, pacey and strong in one-on-one situations."
