Marco Verratti dismisses talk of move to Juventus from Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has said there was "never anything" in speculation that he could move to Juventus to replace Paul Pogba.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Verratti stressed that he wanted to "continue growing" with the French champions.

Asked about Juventus, the 23-year-old said: "Naturally, every now and then, there's a call that might end up in the papers, but I think my contract renewal to 2021 was a clear signal -- I want to win something important with PSG.

"I didn't choose PSG in 2012 [when he moved from Pescara] because I didn't like Serie A.

"For any Italian that's still the best, but at the time I didn't sense there was much faith in me. Besides, PSG had an important project and it was a real challenge. I have no regrets."

The Italy international said he felt the club were close to becoming part of Europe's elite but needed "something more" to get to the same level as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona and win the Champions League.

"For two years PSG have won everything in France, so it's difficult to do more," he added.

"We're working on bridging that gap. You win the Champions League with the tiny details and a bit of luck."

Verratti said he hoped Blaise Matuidi would stay with the French champions despite being linked with a move to Juventus.

"He could be the right man for the job," he added. "He's a world class midfielder who puts his heart into the game, is very strong physically, intelligent and always pushing forward."

"At the end of the day he's always first choice. This is why PSG want to hold on tight. He's a friend, so I hope he stays."

Verratti could make his first Ligue 1 start since late February against Metz at Parc des Princes on Sunday.
