Juventus striker Simone Zaza set for Wolfsburg move after talks

Simone Zaza is in line to leave Serie A champions Juventus for Wolfsburg after holding talks with the Bundesliga club at the weekend.

Wolfsburg are interested in the €25 million-rated Italy striker, whose opportunities in Turin are likely to be limited following the summer arrival of Gonzalo Higuain.

"The player was here yesterday and we had some good talks, but we are still far from completing the transfer," Wolfsburg's sporting director Klaus Allofs told kicker. "It's not just down to what the player wants -- contractual details and the transfer fee must also be defined."

Allofs is nevertheless convinced that Zaza is happy with what he saw during his visit and that an agreement can now be sought with the Bianconeri.

"It's always important that somebody comes to Wolfsburg and sees the city for himself," Allofs said. "I believe that's an important aspect and that was the meaning of yesterday's meeting because whoever comes here finds conditions which cannot be bettered anywhere else.

"There are very few people who come here and say they don't want to play here. Zaza took a look at a few things, most importantly where he would be working. Let's just wait and see now, but I can't imagine anything happening today, tomorrow or the day after."

Zaza, 25, made 19 Serie A appearances last season, although he started only five times. He was still named in Italy's squad for Euro 2016, although he earned ridicule for his penalty miss in the quarterfinal defeat to Germany.

Wolfsburg will be keen to complete the transfer before the start of the Bundesliga season at the end of August. They travel to FSV Frankfurt in the first round of the DFB Pokal next Saturday before facing Augsburg a week later in their opening league fixture.
