Chelsea's Matt Miazga loan options include Frankfurt - source

Chelsea defender Matt Miazga looks set to spend the season on loan, but a source close to the U.S. international told ESPN FC that a final decision on the player's destination has yet to be determined.

A report from Sport Bild stated that Eintracht Frankfurt are close to securing Miazga on loan, but the source stated that the Bundesliga side are one of a handful of teams showing interest.

"There are numerous clubs in for Miazga," said the source. "It's up to Miazga and the club to find the best fit."

Miazga said in late July that he wasn't aware of any pending loan deal, but since then, manager Antonio Conte has hinted strongly that the 21-year-old is in need of playing time, and will spend the season elsewhere.

Miazga has made just two first team appearances with Chelsea since securing a reported $5 million transfer from the New York Red Bulls last January.

With Conte keen to sign defensive reinforcements -- the team are pursuing Napoli center back Kalidou Koulibaly -- and with the likes of John Terry, Gary Cahill, and Branislav Ivanovic already on the books, playing time was looking scarce heading into the campaign.

Miazga's lone appearance in preseason was a late cameo against Austrian side WAC RZ Pellets back on July 20.

Miazga joined the Red Bulls' academy in 2009 and signed his first professional deal with the team as an 18-year-old in 2013.

He had a breakout season in 2015, becoming a mainstay with the Red Bulls, and made a total of 38 league and playoff appearances with New York.

Internationally, Miazga has represented the U.S. at U18, U20, and U23 level. He took part in the 2015 U20 World Cup, in which the Americans fell in the quarterfinals to eventual champions Serbia on penalties.

Miazga has made two appearances with the full U.S. national team.
