Napoli line up Ajax's Arkadiusz Milik to replace Gonzalo Higuain

Napoli have identified Arkadiusz Milik as the man to replace Gonzalo Higuain, with the Poland international forward already in Italy for a medical.

Milik, 22, landed in Rome on Thursday evening, where he was immediately taken for a medical. He is expected to link up with his new teammates in their Dimaro preseason training camp on Friday as the Azzurri moved swiftly to fill the void left by Higuain's acrimonious departure.

They have also reinvested part of the €90 million earned from the sale of the Argentinian, with a reported €25m set to be paid to Milik's current club Ajax. He is in line to make his Napoli debut in a friendly against Nice on Monday, when he is expected to line up with Manolo Gabbiadini in the new-look Azzurri attack.

Meanwhile, Dries Mertens struck two and both Lorenzo Insigne and David Lopez were on target in a 5-0 win over Serie B club Virtus Entellaon Thursday evening.

It was Napoli's first fixture since the sale of Higuain and the first chance for coach Maurizio Sarri to assess his options following the Argentinian's departure.

Gabbiadini led the attack with Marek Hamsik, Jose Callejon and Omar El Kaddouri in support, before Mertens, Insigne and new arrival Emanuele Giaccherini all made their entrances in the second half.
