John Stones has met with Everton's hierarchy to inform them of his wish to join Manchester City, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.
Sources have told ESPN FC that City are lining up a big-money move for Stones, with new City boss Pep Guardiola making the England international one of their top targets of the summer.
Everton are aware of City's interest in the 22-year-old and, although they do not want to lose the England centre-back, they are bracing themselves for an offer.
Stones, who is due to report for preseason training on Monday after his involvement at Euro 2016 with England, would command a fee in the region of £50 million.
That amount would represent a record amount paid for both a defender and an English player -- with City setting the current records with their signings of Eliaquim Mangala and Raheem Sterling respectively.
Stones was involved in a transfer saga last summer with Chelsea seeing several offers for his services rejected as Everton managed to fend off the interest to keep hold of Stones.
The former Barnsley trainee is keen to avoid another lengthy transfer wrangle and sources have told ESPN FC that the player and his representatives met with Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri to ask him to sanction a move to City.
Sources have told ESPN FC that Stones is excited at the prospect of moving to City to link up with Guardiola and the Spanish coach is ready to urge his club to do their utmost to ensure they sign the defender.
