FC Basel sign Seydou Doumbia on season-long loan from AS Roma

AS Roma have confirmed that striker Seydou Doumbia is to join Swiss club FC Basel on loan for the season.

Doumbia, 28, joined Roma in January 2015 from CSKA Moscow, going on to score two goals in 14 games during the remainder of that campaign.

After a successful spell back on loan at CSKA in the first half of last season, scoring five goals in 13 league appearances, he joined Newcastle United for the second half of the campaign.

But his time on Tyneside did not go well, featuring in only three Premier League games as the club were relegated to the Championship.

The Serie A club released a brief statement on their website stating that they have "reached an agreement with Swiss club FC Basel 1893 for the loan of forward Seydou Doumbia for the duration of the 2016-17 season."

He is under contract with the Giallorossi for another three years, although this latest loan move suggests he does not have a future with them.
