Tottenham agree fee to sign Victor Wanyama from Southampton - sources

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of signing Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama after agreeing a fee for the midfielder, sources have told ESPN FC.

Sources close to both clubs have told ESPN FC that a fee in the region of £12 million has been agreed for the 24-year-old, who is due to undergo a medical at Spurs.

Tottenham have held a long-term interest in the Kenya international and tried to sign him last summer, but Southampton were able to keep hold of him.

The Saints were hoping to tie down Wanyama to a new deal, with the player entering the final year of his contract.

However, with the midfielder rejecting offers of a new deal, they have reluctantly agreed to cash in rather than risk letting him run down his contract.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of Wanyama, having worked with him during his time in charge of Southampton.

If Wanyama agrees personal terms and passes his medical successfully, he will become the first Southampton player to be reunited with Pochettino since his arrival at White Hart Lane in 2014.

Wanyama would also become Tottenham's first signing of the summer as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for next season's Premier League title and competing in the Champions League.
