Arsene Wenger: Arsenal won't buy more than three players this summer

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he won't buy more than three players in this transfer window as it could destabilise the team.

The North London club have already signed midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer, and Wenger had hoped to bring in Jamie Vardy as his second summer signing before the European Championship started.

But the Arsenal boss told DeSports on Sunday that he expects the England forward to stay at Leicester.

In the same interview, Wenger also reiterated that he doesn't plan a major overhaul of the squad, but is still looking to bring in a couple more players.

"We've already bought one player -- Xhaka -- from Monchengladbach," Wenger said. "So we've bought one midfielder and we're still on the market to buy one or two more players. But it is not easy.

"It is not just buying. We also have to keep a good balance. If you buy too many players you destabilise your team. So three is the maximum."

Arsenal's need for a striker intensified after Danny Welbeck was ruled out until next year with a new knee injury, while Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott both struggled for form in the second half of the season.

The Gunners had been expected to heavily strengthen their squad after seeing a Premier League title challenge fall apart in 2016, with Wenger's side finishing 10 points behind champions Leicester City and with an inferior goal difference.
