David De Gea not worried by Real Madrid talk, praises Jose Mourinho

David De Gea has said he is not concerned by speculation that Real Madrid are not planning to sign him this summer and backed Jose Mourinho to take Manchester United back to the top.

Madrid tried to sign De Gea last summer in an exchange deal involving Keylor Navas, but the clubs failed to complete the deal before the transfer window closed and the Spain international signed a new four-year contract at Old Trafford in September.

Navas went on to enjoy an exceptional season with Madrid and Marca reported on Thursday that they had decided to keep faith with the Costa Rica goalkeeper next season.

Asked about the report in an interview with Cadena Ser, De Gea said: "I didn't know anything about that but right now I am not worried about it.

"I have three years left at Manchester, with a club who have given me everything, and right now I am not thinking about anything else other than the national team.

"No one from Real Madrid has contacted me and I am used to seeing those kind of newspaper covers, but right now I am focused on the national team. The Euros are about to start and I can't be thinking about anything else."

Asked if he was disappointed to read that Madrid were no longer pursuing him, the 25-year-old replied: "No. I am at a very big club who give me a lot of attention on the day to day. I am very grateful to United. They are a very big club and I am very happy there."

De Gea was signed five years ago, during Sir Alex Ferguson's reign, and has gone on to play under David Moyes and then Louis van Gaal.

Last month, De Gea helped United win the FA Cup -- the club's first major trophy since winning the Premier League under Ferguson three years ago -- and he is hopeful that new boss Mourinho will get the club back on track.

Asked if his situation would change following Van Gaal's exit, he said: "No, I came to United to win titles.

"The truth is that these last two years we have not been at the level we deserve to be at, but we are hopeful that with the coaching change, United will return to the top level."

Asked if he had spoken to Spain teammates Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Pedro Rodriguez or Cesc Fabregas about Mourinho, he said: "No, we already know a lot about him.

"I think that United needed a manager like him, a coach with some personality who is a winner. Signing Mou was a good thing."
