Barcelona to allow striker Sandro Ramirez to leave the club this summer

Young Barcelona striker Sandro Ramirez is set to leave the club this summer, sporting director Robert Fernandez has confirmed.

La Masia graduate Sandro, 20, has spent the last two seasons with the Barca first team, making just 17 La Liga appearances but impressing enough to interest potential suitors in both Spain and in other countries.

The Spain under-21 international has been linked with Premier League clubs including Tottenham, Everton, Crystal Palace and Swansea, for a fee in the region of €8 million.

Speaking to Barca TV, the Catalan club's transfer chief said the youngster might have left 12 months ago but stayed as signing a replacement then would have been impossible with the club under a transfer ban. The Blaugrana will not stand in his way this summer.

"Sandro has already had offers to leave last summer," Fernandez said. "We weighed it up at that time, in the situation we had when we could not sign anyone, and he made an effort to stay. We appreciate that.

"There was a date, May 1, a limit to extend his contract for one year, but after what he did [agree to stay] we thought the fairest thing to do was to open the door."

Sandro scored three goals during the 2014-15 campaign, but the strong and mobile centre-forward got more of a chance to feature when Lionel Messi was injured in the first half of this season.

He only scored three goals during 2015-16, a hat trick against Villanovense in the Copa del Rey, with Luis Enrique eventually preferring another youngster Munir El Haddadi as back-up. .
