Liverpool's Emre Can hopes Mario Gotze makes Anfield switch

Emre Can hopes Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze will join him at Liverpool this summer.

Gotze, who has discussed his future with incoming Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti, is approaching the final year of his Bayern deal and is expected to leave the Allianz Arena this summer.

Borussia Dortmund have said they are open to re-signing the 23-year-old despite opposition from fans and Juventus are also reported to be interested, but Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool appear to be the frontrunners.

Roberto Firmino, who joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim last summer, said this week he would welcome Gotze at Anfield, and Can is also hoping to see his fellow Germany international make the switch.

"I'd be very happy if Mario were to decide in favour of Liverpool," Can told Sport Bild. "Everyone knows what a great footballer he is and what qualities he has. He obviously lacked a bit of confidence at Bayern recently, but that's just normal when you are not winning game time."

Klopp established Gotze as a star at Dortmund and has remained in contact since, and Can said: "The step to Liverpool would be a good one for Mario. Jurgen Klopp has shown this season that he puts a lot of trust in young players."

Can, 22, came through the Bayern youth ranks but left for Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 in search of first-team football before making the move to Anfield a year later.

"You can only advise young players to make the step to Liverpool," he added.
