Mats Hummels decision 'disappointing' - Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchels

Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel has said he is disappointed by the confirmation that defender Mats Hummels wants to join Bayern Munich, but vowed that his side would continue to challenge the Bavarians.

On Thursday, Dortmund revealed that club captain Hummels had requested a transfer to Bayern.

Speaking at his prematch news conference ahead of Dortmund's meeting with Wolfsburg on Saturday, Tuchel said Hummels would remain as captain for the rest of a season that ends with BVB taking on Bayern in the DFB-Pokal final.

He said: "The ball is in the court of the clubs now, no longer with me. We want a quick decision.

"Of course it's disappointing. But we have to deal with this. I am still his coach, and we still have goals to reach in the next weeks."

Hummels would become the third Dortmund player to leave for the Allianz Arena in the last four years, and Tuchel said Dortmund "need to accept there is a category of clubs which are above us."

"Bayern are part of that group, but we will not stop challenging Bayern," the coach said.

With Ilkay Gundogan reportedly in talks with Manchester City and Henrikh Mkhitaryan still not tied to a new contract, Dortmund face an uncertain summer.

But Tuchel said: "There are enough players who will give everything for this club. We will not stop bringing a competitive team to the pitch.

"We must draw strength from these situations. Let's see if the [Hummels] transfer will be completed. No matter what happens, we will have a top team."

CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said Dortmund could make Hummels see out his contract, and said Gundogan, Mkhitaryan and Hummels would not all leave the club in the summer.
