Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas is a target for Major League Soccer franchise New York City FC, a source has told ESPN FC.
New York City, under head coach Patrick Vieira, are keen to strengthen their squad after a disappointing first campaign last season in MLS.
Manchester's City's sister club already have former Chelsea star Frank Lampard, Italian playmaker Andrea Pirlo and ex-Barcelona striker David Villa in their squad.
A source told ESPN FC that New York City have held a long-term interest in former Real Madrid player Casillas, as reported by EcoDiario.es, and they hope they can convince him to leave Europe for America
Casillas, who started his career at Real Madrid, made over 500 appearances for Los Blancos before his departure to Porto last summer.
The 34-year-old enjoyed unprecedented success at Real, winning five La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues during his time at the Bernabeu.
Casillas also won major honours with Spain, captaining his country to success at Euro 2008, Euro 2012 and helping Spain lift their first World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
The shot-stopper has just over a year to run on his contract at Porto, but an ESPN FC source said New York City are exploring the possibility of signing him as soon as possible.
Last month, Spain coach Vicente del Bosque suggested that long-serving La Roja captain Casillas would be content to go to the summer's European Championship as backup to Manchester United's David De Gea.
