Wolfsburg snap up Nigeria's U17 World Cup star Victor Osimhen

Wolfsburg have signed Victor Osimhen from the Ultimate Strikers Academy, while also announcing an immediate partnership with the Nigerian football school.

Osimhen, 17, was one of the stars of the 2015 Under-17 World Cup in Chile and helped Nigeria lift the trophy with 10 goals in seven games, which won him the tournament's Golden Boot.

Several Premier League clubs have kept tabs on the forward and Tottenham reportedly made contact in November with representatives from the Ultimate Strikers Academy.

However, a package put together by Wolfsburg has brought an end to the speculation, with the Bundesliga side announcing that Osimhen will join them on Jan. 1, 2017 -- three days after his 18th birthday.

Wolfsburg have also agreed an "immediate cooperation with the Ultimate Strikers Academy from Nigeria," the club said in a statement on their official website.

As part of the partnership, "talented individuals from the elite football academy receive the opportunity to participate in training activities with the teams from the youth performance centre, the U23 team and also the Bundesliga side as guest players."

Other elements of the deal include "a multi-faceted exchange programme, with the focus on a transfer of knowledge to the Ultimate Strikers Academy, to encourage such elements as modern training techniques, sport medicine or sport technology."

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs said he was delighted to have finalised the deal, and added: "For talented youngsters such as Victor Osimhen, it is a major advantage to combine the games at home with the academy team, with knowledge of youth training and operational processes in European professional football."

Ultimate Strikers Academy president Chinedu Moses Ogbenna said that the partnership is "a massive step" for the academy, and praised the "very impressive" training facilities at Wolfsburg.

"This exchange is a real milestone for us," he added.
