Alexandre Pato flying to London to seal Chelsea loan from Corinthians

Alexandre Pato will arrive in London on Tuesday to finalise a six-month loan move to Chelsea, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Premier League champions have held a long-standing interest in the Corinthians striker and have finally moved to bolster their attacking options with Guus Hiddink's first signing of the January transfer window.

Corinthians had wanted to secure a permanent sale for Pato, who joined the club in a deal worth around £12 million in January 2013 after a six-year spell at AC Milan was brought to an end by declining form and a succession of injuries.

But ESPN FC sources have said that Chelsea have secured Pato on a temporary basis as cover for Diego Costa, who has scored six goals in six matches under Hiddink but was substituted with a knee injury in the 68th minute of Sunday's 1-0 win over Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

Radamel Falcao remains a long-term absentee after suffering a "very serious" setback in his recovery from a persistent thigh injury in December, and could yet return to parent club Monaco this month.

A source told ESPN FC on Tuesday that Newcastle United are in pole position to agree a loan deal for Loic Remy, who is disillusioned by a lack of first-team opportunities at Chelsea as he works his way back to full fitness following a calf problem.

Last month, Pato -- who spent the last two years at Sao Paulo -- told the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Telegraph of his ambition to play in the Premier League for "a club that plays to be champions."
