Roma's Gervinho in talks over China transfer - Mauro Baldissoni

Roma forward Gervinho wants to leave Luciano Spalletti's side, according to the club's general manager Mauro Baldissoni.

Gervinho was persuaded not to leave Roma in the summer by former boss Rudi Garcia, who had a good relationship with the ex-Arsenal player.

"I can confirm that discussions are underway because the player has received a lucrative offer [from China] and if a player wants to leave, then it's pointless trying to force him to stay," Baldissoni is quoted as saying by Il Corriere dello Sport. "We will do what's best for everybody."

A knee injury has prevented the Ivory Coast forward from appearing in either of Roma's two games since Spalletti arrived.

Meanwhile, club president James Pallotta is looking forward to "fantastic" times ahead under new manager Spalletti.

Spalletti returned to the Eternal City club for a second spell in charge a fortnight ago, after Garcia was relieved of his duties.

The first two games in charge for the Italian coach have seen the Giallorossi pick up just one point and slip further adrift of league leaders Napoli, but that has not dampened the president's enthusiasm.

"I'm not concerned about the results in the short term, I'm convinced we are going to get back to being a fantastic side again," Pallotta told Il Corriere dello Sport.

A 1-0 defeat to Juventus on Sunday evening has all but ended their hopes of winning the Scudetto this season, while they now have an uphill struggle finishing inside the top three and qualifying for the Champions League.

However, Spalletti was given a contract until 2017 and Pallotta is looking further down the line for the results, buoyed by what he has seen, at least in training, from the new coach.

"There's been an enormous transformation in the work ethic in the past ten days," he said. "And I am sure that we will see the fruits of this as soon as we get back into shape."
