Arsene Wenger: Arsenal are going to have quiet transfer window finale

LONDON -- Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he expects a "quiet" end to the January transfer window, indicating that he will make no more signings unless an "exceptional" opportunity comes up.

Arsenal have brought in Egypt international midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Basel, but Wenger does not expect any more additions to the squad.

"We are always open to the exceptional occasion of course, because it can be a long-term exceptional opportunity that we would take," he said at a news conference.

"But at the moment I expect our last 10 days [of the window] to be quiet."

The Arsenal manager had previously predicted that this would be the busiest January transfer window ever for many clubs because of how close the title race is and the scramble to avoid relegation with a new TV deal kicking in next season.

"You [the media] will certainly have some work to do over the next 10 days -- not especially with Arsenal but with many other clubs," he said.

Wenger also said he was open to meeting with the head of UK Anti-Doping, Nicole Sapstead, who had said it would be "interesting" to hear what he had to say about doping in football.

The Arsenal manager was outspoken on the subject after a Dinamo Zagreb player tested positive following their Champions League game this season.

"I have more desire than time [to have talks], but I am always happy to help if I can," he said. "I just think in our job, in football especially, we look like we want to tackle the problem now. It looked to me for a long period that we didn't."

Wenger has previously called on UEFA and FIFA to do more in the fight against doping but said he was certain it was not a problem in English football.

"I'm sure that not one club in England is trying to dope its players," he said. "I'm absolutely 100 percent convinced that nobody in England tries to do that as a club."
