Kevin Kampl will not be moving to Atletico Madrid - Rudi Voller

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has said the club will not sell midfielder Kevin Kampl to Atletico Madrid.

Kampl joined Leverkusen from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, and the Slovenia international has since excelled in a defensive midfield role.

His agent, Michael Ruhnau, told Bild that Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta had been in touch and added: "It's a great appreciation of his performances at Bayer."

But he added: "I directly referred Atletico to Rudi Voller, and told Mr Berta that Kevin is 1,000 percent happy to be at Leverkusen."

And Voller stressed that Atletico's interest was "definitely not an issue," telling the paper: "Kevin is more than happy here, and we are happy with him. We need the player."

Kampl, born in the German town of Solingen, came through Bayer's youth academy before going on to play for clubs including Greuther Furth, Osnabruck, Aalen and FC Salzburg.
