U.S. international Fabian Johnson has said that Borussia Monchengladbach is likely to be his last Bundesliga club but has not ruled out a future move to a different league.
Johnson, 28, impressed for Gladbach during the first half of the Bundesliga season as they recovered from five consecutive defeats in their first five games.
He has been a permanent fixture in new coach Andre Schubert's starting XI after the 44-year-old took charge, featuring in all Gladbach's games.
Johnson finally found his scoring boots and struck six goals, setting up a further three in a total of 20 appearances for Gladbach, the club he joined from Hoffenheim on a free transfer in 2014.
Gladbach are his fourth club in Germany, and the winger -- who came through the ranks of his hometown club 1860 Munich -- told Bild: "In football, you never know what will happen, but it's likely I won't switch clubs in Germany."
Johnson had been part of Germany's "golden" under-21 generation that won the 2009 European Championship with a squad including future World Cup winners Mesut Ozil, Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Sami Khedira, Mats Hummels and Benedikt Howedes.
But as Johnson's career stalled at Wolfsburg from 2009 to 2011, he switched allegiances to United States in 2011 -- and the player has no regrets.
"That was exactly the right decision for my development," he said. "Nobody can predict what would have happened instead and whether I would have made it into the German national team."
Johnson said that he feels half-American and half-German, adding: "I have dual citizenship. I like the American way of life, but I was also raised in Germany, and all of my family lives in Munich."
Johnson's father plays basketball but he said he was too small to follow in his footsteps.
He added that he "only knows Magic Johnson by name," adding: "My favourite player is more Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors."
