Bayern Munich 'calm' over Mario Gotze contract - Matthias Sammer

Bayern Munich are aware of Mario Gotze's contract situation and are relaxed about his future following speculation about a move to Liverpool, the club's sporting executive Matthias Sammer has said.

Gotze, 23, is currently working on his comeback following a thigh injury he sustained in Germany's 1-0 loss to Republic of Ireland in early October.

The Germany international is set for a return in February, and then will only have around three months left at the Allianz Arena before he enters the final 12 months of his current deal.

Gotze's contract expires in summer 2017 and, unlike his teammates Javi Martinez, Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng, has so far not agreed a new deal with the club.

Earlier this month, Gotze was linked with a switch to Liverpool but ruled out a winter exit, stressing during a news conference during Bayern's winter training camp that he was happy at the Allianz Arena.

However, Gotze, once considered one of the world football's brightest prospects, did not rule out leaving Bayern in the summer.

He told Sport Bild that "everything is still open," adding that "it all depends on the plans of the club and the new coach [Carlo Ancelotti]."

Speaking to Sat1 at the side of Bayern's 2-1 friendly defeat at Karlsruher SC, Sammer also said that Bayern are aware that the summer represents the last chance to cash in on Gotze should his contract not be prolonged.

"We'll take a calm look at it," Sammer said. "Bayern Munich still determines the strategy. With Mario, that's not a problem at all. We all know what the situation is like, about the contract length."

Sammer added that Bayern are aware of "certain dates," and reiterated that Bayern "make the decision."

Meanwhile, Bayern right-back Rafinha sustained a severely bruised knee in Bayern's 2-1 loss at Karlsruhe, with the club announcing on their official website that "it remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined for.
