Inter Milan poised to sign Jonathan Calleri from Boca Juniors

Boca Juniors forward Jonathan Calleri has revealed that he is on the brink of joining Inter Milan in January.

Calleri, 22, who has scored 10 goals in the Argentine Primera Division this season, told reporters in South America the two clubs had reached an agreement and he would discuss terms with the Serie A leaders.

"The negotiations are very far advanced, but it's a very difficult decision," he told TyC Sports.

"Almost everything's done from Boca's side -- it's just up to me now to reach an agreement. Every player would like to play for Inter. It's a train that passes only once.

"I'm delighted with the way Boca, a great club, have treated me. I would like to play in the Copa Libertadores, but I know that it's complicated. [Pablo Daniel] Osvaldo is coming back and I want to be playing with continuity.

"This, and the fact Boca have practically done a deal with Inter, is why it seems difficult for me to carry on playing here."

Il Corriere dello Sport reported that Inter could opt to send Calleri out on loan so he can gain match time in Serie A.

His goals have attracted attention from several clubs in Europe, and former Inter, Lazio and Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron told Tuttosport: "He's skilful and fast.

"He's made a name for himself in Argentina, but it's a different thing entirely in Italy. He will need time."

Last month, sources told ESPN FC that Chelsea were weighing up a move for the highly-rated Calleri, who has impressed at Boca since joining from Club Atletico All Boys in 2014.
